Aileen MacDonald

Our Founder

Aileen brings over 40 years of executive experience across travel, hospitality, financial services, and nonprofit sectors. Her roles have included marketing, communications, project management, and nonprofit leadership, notably as Executive Director restoring Toronto’s Revue Cinema. She has served on several nonprofit Boards, using her expertise to create real change.

Personal experience caring for seniors in her family ultimately inspired Aileen to establish ElderBest. Navigating work, parenthood, and elder care, she saw firsthand the challenges facing the sandwich generation and identified the need for reliable, practical support. During these challenging times, Aileen recognized the absence of a dependable professional who could step back, assess the broader situation, and provide practical, cost-effective recommendations.

Aileen joined Silver Sherpa, Canada’s top crisis resolution, and elder management firm, assisting seniors and families with tailored plans, navigating options and services, healthcare cost projections, Advance Care Directives, estate, and funeral planning.

ElderBest provides Aileen with the ideal platform to share the knowledge and insights she has gained through formal training and lived experiences. These experiences have instilled in her a deep appreciation, sensitivity, and understanding of aging, enabling her to connect with and support elders with compassion and empathy. Aileen’s analytical and nurturing approach helps elders overcome obstacles and live with optimism and purpose. ElderBest reflects her passion for empowering seniors to thrive and live their BEST lives.

FAQ

What does an ElderBest consultant do?

Essentially, an ElderBest consultant is a combination of personal assistant, concierge, and companion. We provide advice and assist seniors with tasks, errands and projects, helping them to manage, organize and optimize their life. The consultant’s roll will be varied—depending on the elder’s needs and requirements.  We individualize our professional services to proactively anticipate, meet, and adapt to the elder’s evolving needs and requirements based on their health, home, values, preferences, priorities, and aspirations. An ElderBest consultant will focus on who you are and what you need and provide advice, problem solving, project management, and source essential support services as required.

Is an ElderBest consultant the same as a Personal Support Worker or Companion?

We are not personal support workers, nor are we licensed healthcare professionals. We do not provide personal care or medical care, advice, or treatment. A personal support worker functions as a healthcare provider who addresses the physical and psychosocial needs of the elderly, ill, disabled, and injured. A PSW provides care and generally assists with personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, and ambulation. An ElderBest consultant does not provide this type of care. Companionship and friendship are built into the core of how we operate, but our conversations and/or visits are both social and productive. Our visits are positive and encouraging but at the same time useful and efficient. An ElderBest consultant will provide companionship, but at the same time our experience allows us to offer advice, organize, and project manage challenges, while with you in home.

We offer a complimentary initial phone and / or in-home consultation.
